Process
All of our projects no matter of size are bespoke, we work with our clients to create a landscape or garden that is unique to both the brief provided and the landscape context where the space is sited. Our designs will enhance the lives of both people and nature.
Through our comprehensive design service, we re-think what an outside space can be, from courtyard gardens to city parks, we are passionate about creating engaging spaces.
Although every project is different, our design process follows a similar path based upon the industry recognised stages of work set out by RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects).
Briefing & Analysis
RIBA Stage 0-1
Our services at this initial stage include assessing the client’s brief and understanding the existing landscape character and condition. We then identify the landscape constraints and opportunities of the site and review and prepare the final project brief an outline program. The preparation of a project analysis and broad concept and landscape philosophy, landscape design diagrams and a feasibility report form part of our services at this stage.
Concept Design
RIBA Stage 2
After the analysis, this stage is where we chat through the overall scheme and develop the initial concept design. This part of the process should open up a dialogue allowing the design to evolve as we move through the following stages. Typically we produce a short landscape strategy presentation with sketch drawings, visualistaions and material and plant mood boards.
Outline Design
RIBA Stage 3
At this stage the concept design is refined and developed. We will produce an A3 design presentation which includes scaled plans, elevations, perspectives, planting & materials palettes and precedent images. We can also produce a 3D computer model where required which we can walk through together.
If needed at this stage we will prepare a package of landscape related information for submitting to the Local Authority as part of a detailed planning submission.
Detail Design
RIBA Stage 4
The devil is in the detail, and it’s the detail that elevates a space.
and it’s why we meticulously work through every aspect of the design – be it grouting colour or lighting fixtures, it is all considered. At the detail design stage we will produce drawings which enable the garden to be built and our shared vision to be realised. Any changes from the outline design will be drawn up into the masterplan, all the technical construction drawings will be produced and the setting out plans finalised. This package enables a landscape contractor to accurately cost the build.
Construction
RIBA Stage 5
Our services at Stage 5 help to ensure a quality landscape and external works scheme is delivered at completion. Our services offered at this stage include monitoring/ inspecting the on site landscape works; the production of landscape architect’s site inspection reports; the attendance at progress meetings; respond to Request For Information’s (RFI’s); respond to contractor’s landscape queries; amend landscape architect’s drawings/ specifications; inspect contractor proposed plant material at the nursery.
